The Fires in Maui: Could they have been prevented?

Much of what passes for “climate change” information, seems more like religious writing instead of scientific. The horrific fires in Maui, that devastated the community of Lahaina had less to do with climate change and more to do with human error. And when I say “human error”, I’m talking about humans realizing that there are problems (plural) and not doing anything about them.

Yet CNN was more concerned that more “news outlets” (actually nothing more that advertising sales organizations claiming to be news outlets) didn’t blame the fires on climate change enough.

As it turns out, the fires were most likely caused by power lines causing sparks in the high winds (estimates of 40-60mph) lighting dry, invasive grasses on fire. The fires were then driven down the hillsides into the coastal community of Lahaina. What could the humans have done? 1. Turn off power to power lines temporarily and 2. fight the proliferation of non-native grasses. Hawaii was in the middle of a typical summer dry season. You can read the analysis here.
